MySoma Reset
Gentle somatic exercise to restore natural movement and release chronic tension
Slow, floor-based movement that works with your nervous system — not against it.

What is MySoma Reset?
MySoma Reset is a structured somatic exercise class designed to help the nervous system release habitual muscle tension and restore natural movement patterns in the body.

Rather than stretching or strengthening, the class uses slow, mindful movement to reconnect the brain and muscles — allowing change to happen comfortably and safely.

A central tool used in MySoma Reset is pandiculation: a gentle, voluntary contraction followed by a slow, controlled release. This process helps the nervous system recognize and let go of patterns of chronic muscle holding, often referred to as sensory-motor amnesia (SMA) — when muscles remain tight simply because the brain has forgotten how to fully relax them.

This work is rooted in the tradition of Thomas Hanna, and follows a natural progression through the body that supports lasting, functional change.
What does “MySoma” mean?
Soma refers to the body as it is perceived from within — your lived, felt experience of movement.

MySoma emphasizes that this work is guided by your internal sensing. Rather than copying shapes or pushing through discomfort, students are invited to move in ways that feel natural, comfortable, and appropriate for their own body.

In MySoma Reset, attention is always directed inward — toward sensation, ease, and choice — allowing each person to respond based on what feels best in their soma.

The reference point is always your own felt experience.
What a MySoma Reset class looks like
MySoma Reset is a slow, floor-based class designed to support safety, comfort, and awareness.

Movements are gentle and unhurried, with plenty of time to sense, pause, and rest. Students are always encouraged to do less rather than more — it is never necessary to push, strain, or force change.

Staying within comfort is central to the practice. Movements may be very small, subtle, or even explored within the imagination. What matters is not how much you move, but how clearly you sense.

Rest is encouraged throughout class, and props are welcomed and supported. Pillows, blankets, bolsters, or anything that helps you feel more comfortable are considered part of the practice — not a modification.

MySoma Reset honors the body as it is today. Each student is invited to listen inward, move at their own pace, and respond based on what feels best in their own soma — without comparison, correction, or pressure.

There is no “right way” to move — only the way that feels right for you.
Lineage & Structure
MySoma Reset is rooted in Thomas Hanna’s Daily Cat Stretch, as described in his book Somatics.

The class follows the same foundational principles — pandiculation, sensory awareness, and a progressive release of habitual muscle tension — while offering a clear, supportive structure designed for group classes and consistent practice.

MySoma Reset includes a gentle progression that begins with smaller, preparatory movements and builds toward fuller spinal and whole-body patterns, always returning to rest and sensing. Specific pauses for awareness are intentionally woven throughout class, allowing time to notice change and integrate new sensations.

In this way, MySoma Reset honors Hanna’s original work while offering a refined, accessible format that supports safety, clarity, and embodied learning.
